The Situation:
The unions of RATP agents call for a day of strike on Friday, 13 September 2019 due to the
government's proposal to reform pension plans.
Service disruptions could begin as early as Thursday, 12 September at 18:00 and last until
Saturday, 14 September at 06:40.
Major disruption are expected, especially on buses and metro lines.
Possible Effects:
Possible protests or demonstrations
Traffic delays and possibly blocked roads due to demonstrations
Lack of transportation options, including taxis and rideshare services
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Avoid all protests and demonstration, which have the possibility of turning violent
Allow extra time for travel
Avoid travel through major cities if possible, instead using bypasses
Monitor local media and news for updates
Secure proper transportation to accommodations and prepare for delays due to traffic
Enroll in the Safe Traveler program (STEP) to receive warnings from the U.S. Embassy, or sign up for your country’s embassy alert system to receive warnings
