The Situation:
The U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam, Netherlands, will be closed to the public at 13:00 (local time) on Thursday, 16 May, and will re-open at 8:00 am (local time) on Friday, 17 May due to a sports championship event within close proximity.
Approximately 80,000 people will attend the championships held at the Museumplein in Amsterdam 16 May. Public transportation disruptions are expected due to extensive road closures, parking restrictions, check points, and restricted operations of public transportation. Airport disruptions in the days following the event are possible.
In the event of a consular emergency, the U.S. Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands is expected to remain open during regular business hours during the event.

Larger than normal crowds
Significant traffic delays and detours
Longer wait times at checkpoints
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Adhere to public security orders
Avoid all large crowds, which have the possibility of turning violent
Allow extra time for travel
Allow extra time at the airport due to large influxes of travelers
Take bypasses and highways
Monitor local and social media for updates
Before traveling to the airport or using public transportation, ensure services are operating normally
Enroll in the Safe Traveler program (STEP) to receive warnings from the U.S. Embassy
