The Situation:
Typhoon Faxai has winds at Category 1 and is expected to strengthen slightly as it moves
northwest toward Japan. With its current track it is expected to make landfall late this
weekend into next week. It is also maintaining a compact form and is expected to continue
to do so, which means less land impacted overall at landfall. The coast of Honshu, to include
Tokyo, is in range of where the storm is expected to hit.
Possible Effects:
Heavy rainfall could lead to landslides and flooding in already saturated areas
Downed trees, hindering rescue/recovery efforts
Traffic delays
Cancelled, delayed or rerouted flights
Power outages in homes and places of work
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Monitor local news and weather media for updates
Allow extra time for travel
