The Situation:
Public transportation strikes are planned across Italy, on Wednesday, 24 July, with air
transportation strikes scheduled 26 July.
On 24 July, a national railway strike is scheduled from 09:00 hours to 17:00, while a 24-
hour strike will affect ferries across the country. Furthermore, taxis are planning to hold a
nationwide 24-hour strike on the same date.
Widespread transportation disruptions are to be expected across the country during the
strikes. Significant congestion is also expected.
On 26 July, several trade unions representing air transport workers nationwide have called
for a strike on Friday. Alitalia airline employees and Milan Linate (LIN) airport staff have
announced a strike from 00:01 to 23:59 hours, while trade unions representing other air
transport workers, including at Milan Malpensa (MXP), Bologna (BLQ), and Verona (VRN)
airports, are expected to strike from 10:00 to 14:00.
Delays, modified timetables, and last-minute cancelations are likely on 26 July, particularly
during the work stoppage.
Transportation-related strikes are frequent in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However,
in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all
industrial and social actions.
