The Situation:
Protesters in Frankfurt are slated to protest on Thursday, 25 July, in
solidarity with Colombian protesters against the targeted killings of social and human
rights leaders in Columbia. Protesters will gather at 18:00 hours at the Euro sign's
platform.
Demonstrations may last for several hours causing extreme traffic delays and/or road
blocks. Heightened security and police presence to be expected.
Depicted below in the maps (yellow runners) are the above-mentioned locations expecting
large crowds in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich respectively:
Possible Effects:
Large crowds or demonstration
Traffic delays, especially near protest sites
Roads blocked by participants with little to no notice
Increased security near demonstration sites
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Avoid all protests and large crowds, which have the possibility of turning violent
Allow extra time for travel
Avoid traveling through city centers and take bypasses
Monitor local and social media for updates
Enroll in the Safe Traveler program (STEP) to receive warnings from the U.S. Embassy
