The Situation:
Air traffic control labor union, USAC-CGT, in France has confirmed a transportation strike scheduled on 6 February to 7 February in protest of the government’s proposed universal pension reform.
Further flight disruptions, including delays and cancelations and increased demand for alternative flights, are expected amid the work stoppages from 5 February to 7 February 2020. Similar strikes since December 5, 2019 have caused significant transportation disruptions across France.
Possible Effects:
Protest or demonstrations, especially near government buildings, city centers, and airports
Delayed and/or cancelled flights
Disruptions to public transportation
Traffic in the vicinity of protests
Increased presence of security personnel, such as local police
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Avoid all protests and large crowds, which have the possibility of turning violent
Check flight status prior to departure to the airport
Allow extra time for travel
Maintain a full fuel tank, if driving
Prepare for disruptions caused by protests
Monitor local and social media for updates
Adjust travel plans as you see fit
