Civil Unrest Alert- Czech Republic

The Situation:

Anti-government protests will be held in hundreds of cities across the Czech Republic on Monday, 13 May. Protesters are expected to gather at 18:30 (local time) in the Dominican Square in Brno, also at the at Masaryk Square in Ostrava.


Possible Effects:

  • Blocked roads due to protests/marches or parallel strikes

  • Increased traffic, especially near city centers and government buildings

  • Heavy police and security presence

  • Protests and demonstrations


Mitigating Factors to Apply:

  • Avoid all protests and large crowds, which have the possibility of turning violent

  • Allow extra time to travel

  • Monitor local and social media for updates

  • Enroll in the Safe Traveler program (STEP) to receive warnings from the U.S. Embassy
