The Situation:
Tropical Storm Bailu is expected to make landfall Sunday on the southeastern coast of
China. Areas at highest risk from winds and rain effects from Bailu are eastern Guangdong
and Fujian to southern Zhejiang and Jiangxi. Rainfall between 4-8 inches is possible and
wind gusts of up to 70 mph are predicted near the center of the storm.
Possible Effects:
Heavy rainfall could lead to landslides and flooding in already saturated areas
Downed trees, hindering rescue/recovery efforts
Traffic delays
Cancelled flights
Power outages in homes and places of work
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Monitor local news and weather media for updates
Allow extra time for travel
Avoid traveling through flooded areas
Keep extra bottled water in lodging
Keep electronics charged
Check with airline for possible flight delay or cancellation
